New! Colorado Heartstrings Quilt Pattern

New! Colorado Heartstrings Quilt Pattern

If you have ever visited Colorado, you know we are proud of our state flag! You’ll find it on just about everything – clothing, stickers, signs, souvenirs, and more. For Coloradans, the flag symbolizes the state we love.

Like many Colorado artists, I was inspired by our state flag for my new mini-quilt pattern, Colorado Heartstrings. The quilt features a version of the Colorado Flag cut into a large heart. Measuring at 10” square, the quilt is a great size to hang or use as the center of a pillow, tote bag, and more.

There are 2 ways to create your own Colorado Heartstrings Quilt. Click on the linked text above or visit my shop to find the pattern and kit.

Colorado Heartstrings Kit & Print Pattern

  • Includes a print patterns and precut pieces (heart, Colorado “C”) already fused with HeatnBond adhesive.

I've made it super easy! Just open the kit, iron, and stitch the pieces in place, and finish for a quick and easy applique project. It’s perfect for beginners as well as seasoned quilters looking for a fun, fast project.

Several of my quilting friends have already purchased kits to show their Colorado pride for our state’s 150th Anniversary in August. I loved how one friend was going to make one for her door as well as another friend, too!

Colorado’s flag has an interesting back story!

The Colorado State Flag was first adopted in 1911 and was designed by Andrew Carlilse Carson, a Denver resident and owner of The Orpheum Theater, who had the winning entry in a contest to design the flag. His design featured 3 even stripes across the flag, the iconic Colorado "C" and colors that represent the state:

  • ·      Blue for Colorado’s blue skies.
  • ·      Gold for our state’s abundant sunshine.
  • ·      Red for the ruddy earth.
  • ·      And white for the snowcapped Rocky Mountains.

The gold and white also represent the silver and gold mines in Colorado. Carson’s timeless designs still flies over our state today.

Want to learn more? Colorado had at least one alternative flag suggested and it seems that not everyone knew about Carson's design. Check out these two sources for the drama and details about our state flag’s history and how Carson's design prevailed. Articles are linked below.
