We're moving to the mountains! We're headed to Grand Lake, Colorado, at the end of 2024. If you had told me 3 weeks ago we'd be moving out of our home of 20 years, I would have not have believed it!
But my family has always dreamed of living in the Rocky Mountains and we found a great opportunity to realize this dream in a different way. This all started in 2022 when we bought land in Grand County, Colorado. We expected to build on that land and move to a new home in 2026. However, after facing challenges with building in the mountains and the lack of trades available, we surrendered our dream of building a home and regrouped.
Our next move was to find a home in Grand County we could live in for a couple of years and renovate as a future rental property. Instead, we found something quicker than anticipated. We toured 3 properties and decided to tour a 4th one just for the heck of it. That was all it took - we ended up finding a new home we can live in now and for the foreseeable future.
This next chapter looks a little different. We're downsizing from our large suburban home where we raised our family. Instead of quilting in my basement, my longarm will be in our living room until things thaw this summer. Then we'll build a small quilt barn for my studio and longarm. We'll live on a half-acre with no suburban HOA close to the forest. We currently live in a home in a large neighborhood a couple of miles from E-470. Our new home will be much quieter and more like what I grew up on the edge of town in my Kansas hometown. We have enjoyed over 25 wonderful years here in the Denver area and are looking forward to this new adventure.
I'm also excited about relocating Colorado Threadworks! We'll live in the heart of our beautiful state in the places that inspire me the most. I'm dreaming of stitching while watching the snow fall or enjoying the lush beauty of the forest and lakes during the summer. There are also a couple of great quilt shops in the area - the Fabric Nook in Granby and Cabins and Quilts in Grand Lake. The Rocky Mountain Folk School, which has many cool art classes is also located in Grand Lake.
I'll be quilting here in Aurora until December 12th, taking a break until mid-January, until we have the longarm unpacked and running again. I also plan to continue longarming for many customers here (thank you!). We'll travel to Denver 1-2 times a month, not only for longarming drop-offs and pick-ups, but also for major shopping. My niece who visits family in Grand County often has offered be a "Quilt Mule" to help transport quilts back and forth, too. I'll keep you all posted as we make this move.
One final thought...if you are wondering if something you really want will ever happen, please don't lose faith! If you are open to possibilities, it can happen, but it might look a little different. And it just might be better than your original dream!
